The history of the “Cleek”
A typical 3-iron iron has 21 degrees of loft. The Cleek we will supply you with will have a similar loft.
A “Cleek” is an iron headed club with only a small amount of loft. Golfers in ancient times would carrying only one or possibly two irons for playing the ball from tight lies. The term “cleek” became popular around the mid-19th century, and it is possible to summise that it relates to the sharp sound emitted when hitting the gutta-percha ball when it was introduced around this time. Some golfers found that putting with these irons was easier than using a traditional wooden headed putter, and these shortened clubs became known as “Putting Cleeks”.
